It is important to know when to buy new tires for your vehicle. Your tires are the only contact with the road! Reliable tires could mean the difference between safe travels and experiencing a disastrous event.

Consider these factors when deciding if its time to buy new tires:

1) Check the tread wear: An easy way to test your tire's tread is known as the penny test. Place a penny into the center of the tire's tread between two ridges, with the image of Lincoln’s head facing you. If you can see the very top of the head, or more (the space above the head), then the tire needs to be replaced immediately. If only some hair is visible, then it is time to consider purchasing new tires, though the need is not as urgent. If some of the forehead is concealed, there is still adequate tread.

2) Check the sides of a tire for wear: under-inflation can lead to improper wear of the outside of a tire. Over time, this can lead to poor traction in wet and snow conditions. In some cases, the sides may be so worn that steel belts on the inside of the tire become visible. In this scenario, tire(s) should be replaced immediately.
