A brake line repair or replacement problem common after a harsh winter like we had recently is the corrosion and rust present from the road salt and other chemicals used to remove the ice and snow that covered local Reston, VA roads, parking lots, and surrounding highways.
To counter this type of threat to area trucks, SUVs, and cars, Wiygul Automotive specialists carefully examine every vehicle’s brake lines with a free inspection that also includes a check of the brake pads and brake fluid level. After several winters, a small amount of surface discoloration is normal. If we find it along the entire length of the brake line, replacement is needed to ensure the braking safety of the driver and his passengers.
Our specialists carefully disassemble the brake line connector and remove both the damaged lines and the brackets that secure them to preserve the connection points. Then, they drain the brake system of fluid and clean the connectors and brackets before measuring new lines for installation.
Specialists measure the old lines against new brake line material drawn from our stock on-hand. After they match and cut the new ones, they dispose of the old lines according to EPA and state regulations.
Next, they insert one end to the brakes and secure it in place with a cleaned connector before carefully bending the new brake line into place and attach the other end to the fluid reservoir. Finally, they reinstall the brackets to keep the new lines in the correct position.
To ensure the installation is correct, two technicians perform a brake check. One of them pours new brake fluid into the master cylinder reservoir, filling it, and then loosens the bleeder valve. Another specialist begins tapping the brakes to force or bleed air from each new line. They continue until the specialist under the vehicle sees only new fluid exiting the line with no indication of any remaining air.
Once they have an even flow of brake fluid, they close the bleeder valve and top off the master cylinder reservoir with more brake fluid. If they need to replace all four lines, our specialists begin with the passenger and driver rear brake lines, then finish with the front passenger and driver lines.
That completes the brake service, and the auto is ready for safe operation again. In addition to brake line repair and replacement, our Reston , VA clinic provides the following services with the same level of expertise:
