Brake line repair and replacement is often an issue after several years of driving or a very harsh winter. The road salt and other agents used to remove ice and snow that covers local Waldorf, MD parking lots, roads, and nearby highways can cause rust and corrosion to form and eat away brake lines.
To counter this threat, Wiygul Automotive specialists carefully examine each brake line as part of a free inspection that also includes a look at brake pad thickness and the brake fluid level. A small amount of surface discoloration forming is normal, but if we find it along the entire length of the brake line, we recommend a replacement to ensure the vehicle’s continuing capability to for proper braking.
Our specialists begin with draining the fluid from the master cylinder reservoir and disassemble the brake line connectors. They carefully remove both the damaged lines and the brackets that secure them to preserve the connection points. Then, specialists clean the brackets and connectors before measuring new lines to install.
They next measure the old lines against new ones pulled from our on-hand inventory. After matching and cutting new brake lines, they dispose of the old ones by state and EPA requirements.
Next, they insert one end to the brakes and secure it in place with a cleaned connector. Then, they bend the new brake line into place and attach the other end to the master cylinder reservoir. Finally, they reinstall the brackets to hold the new lines in the correct position.
To ensure each step went correctly, two specialists perform a brake check. One of them fills the master cylinder reservoir with new brake fluid and opens the bleeder valve. Another technician starts lightly tapping the brakes to push of bleed air from the new line. They continue this until the crew member under the vehicle sees only new fluid exiting the line with no sign of trapped air.
The specialist closes the bleeder valve and tops off the master cylinder reservoir with more brake fluid. If more than one brake line needs replacing, crew members start with the passenger and driver rear brakes, then the front passenger and driver brakes.
